This is a Term I introductory course designed to present basic principles of nursing practice necessary for the practical nurse to assist clients with diverse cultural backgrounds to maintain or attain their desired level of wellness.  Through use of nursing process, students will apply these principles to the care of clients in long-term care facilities and community agencies.  Emphasis is placed on use of proper nursing procedures and client safety.

Students are also assisted with adjustment to the student role, and to define role limitations of the practical nurse in today’s health care system, including ethical and legal responsibilities.
